About Eoghan McDermott

A politics and Irish graduate of UCD, Eoghan trained in the world renowned Broadway Dance Centre in New York in his early twenties as a commercial choreographer, dancing on shows for The PussyCat Dolls and Chris Brown. Abandoning the dancing in search of a job that paid actual money he pursued his love all media all the way to the iconic (now called) Radio X, home of Ricky Gervias, Russell Brand and Zane Lowe. He hosted the Drivetime slot, where he was nominated for Best UK Newcomer in the National Radio Awards.

In his native Ireland, he has co-hosted The Voice for all 5 smash-hit seasons. Currently he is host of RTE 2fm Drivetime - equivalent to the UK’s BBC Radio1. From mid 2017 - present the show’s audience has grown by 21% - one of the biggest growing audiences in the country. For the past four years he has also hosted yearly TV coverage of Ireland’s Glastonbury equivalent “Electric Picnic” for RTE 2.

Eoghan has hosted several one-off music specials for RTE also, including “Up Close With Ed Sheeran” - an in-depth interview with the musical juggernaut. He has done similar with Sam Smith and Ireland’s new U2, Kodaline. U2 themselves featured Eoghan’s video review of their Innocence and Experience tour on their u2.com homepage.

He has most recently hosted a soon to air world exclusive TV special with former One Direction star Naill Horan, with Niall reciting his entire solo album Flicker with the RTE Concert Orchestra.

In 2017 Eoghan returned to his politics degree and hosted ‘Generation What’ for RTE2 television. It was the biggest ever survey of Irish Millennial’s attitudes towards sex, drugs, politics, religion, immigration, social cohesion and more.

Eoghan has been an ambassador for mental health organisation Pieta House for 5 years, and gives regular talks at high profile events aimed at youth wellbeing. His work in this area was highlighted worldwide when Harry Potter star Devon Murray revealed on Eoghan’s show he had attempted to take his own life after a bout of depression. This year Eoghan gave the Guest Of Honour address at the prestigious Pieta and St Patricks Mental Health Services annual conference.

He was the voice over for Love Island Australia during the summer of 2018, which is currently being shown on ITVBe on weeknights from 11pm.
