About Fern Whelan

Former Lioness and retired WSL player Fern, is now an established pundit for Sky Sports. She is also the Professional Footballer’s Association’s first Women’s Football EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) Executive.

Last year, Fern also worked for Sky Sports during the women’s European Championships, and co-commentated on women’s football for the BBC and Gravity Media. Most notably, she covered the women’s FA Cup final 2022.

Alongside winning accolades such as FA Young Player of the Year and European Under-19’s Player of the Tournament, she has won the FA Cup, League Cup and competed in the women’s Champions League. Off the pitch, she is also a qualified physiotherapist with a Masters in Sports and Injury Rehabilitation.

Fern is also a renowned public speaker who has previously spoken around the challenges faced whilst competing in elite sport, especially as a female.
